Boredom : fertile ground where creativity germinates ?
A beautiful autumn evening on my rooftop - with my pencil and journal in hand, with a quiet peace in my heart which I equated to 'boredom' at the tender age of 12 --- I penned down my very first poem !!
Fast forward to college summer break of 1990 - a blank piece of paper , some water colors , paint brushes, will to re-create a poster I had marveled at, fascinated both by the art and the artists' talent , sparked this slow amber fire that burned a path down the rabbit hole of creative expression !!
Imitation : the best form of praise ?
Stumbling upon the blocks of perfectionism , fear of creating my own art versus the various imitation pieces I grew comfortable painting ... courage dawned along the way to stop repeating art and start creating it .
Along the way I have dabbled with various mediums, a self taught artist - I took up first water colors, acrylics then pastels - finally settling with a happy medium - oil paints !
I fell in love - with oils, with the process of creating ... into that zone where nothing matters when I paint, when the canvas is just an extension of this glob of paint, paintbrush and my arm - where it must find solid expression - for the creation bursting forth to just 'Be ' Seen .
So, Whats in a name?
I was crowned with this proud title when my nieces, who are 12 and 9 now, began to find verbal expression and would lovingly call me 'She -Be' . She-Bua( Bua for Aunt in Hindi) thats who I was to them, but in pure childlike playfullness - they empowered me . She - Be : who she wants to be . Just like my art - knowing not where it comes from , but must find expression, morphing into whatever it might be in that moment- authentic, raw, beautiful, soulful - simple art.
I hope this blog inspires those who come upon it - to enjoy, create, find their own moments of 'be'ing.
